What are the shadows?
Shadow traits are the unwanted emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors we do that keep us from doing what we really want to do.
Oftentimes we project them onto others as hate, resentment, fear, intolerance, upset.
Think about your relationships and work environment. Is there someone there that always seems to piss you off, or upset you?
Are there times when you wish you could have spoken to someone, or done something that seemed like a really good thing, but you chickened out and never did it?
Maybe you are stuck in some cyclic patterns of potential positive changes, but something always seems to happen where you are knocked back to square one.
All of these are examples of very common shadows that keep us from being who we really are or doing the things that are most important in our lives.
Shadow work is spiritual work
The psyche creates shadows as a means to help us survive in a difficult time.
They are the things we learn to do, to adapt to the situation, so we can make it through these tough times.
But the tough times don’t persist. Things change, life moves on. However, we carry these lessons with us into new times. And the things that once worked, now cause disruption.
At the core of your being is someone who has been through all these moments, and still has a higher perspective of your life.
This is your soul. Your soul knows what you have been through, why you did what you did, and will not stand in judgment of you. Rather, acceptance.
Your soul is waiting for you to connect, to get the guidance you need, so that you can work through these shadows and ascend into the life your soul really wants for you!
This is kind of scary stuff yes!
Shadow work is not for the timid.
If you are comfortable and happy with the way things are in your life, and you think you can endure all that you are going through for the rest of your life, then great!
But if you have had enough, you know something needs to change, and those changes need to come from you, then this is your time.
Shadow work is about going into those deep, dark, and potentially scary places. To confront who you were, who you think you are, and what you thought you knew to be true.
To challenge all of those things, confront the shadows, and learn the things about yourself that have remained hidden in these deep dark places.
Many people are not willing to do this. So they say stuck in the cycles of their never ending suffering, unable to move on from it all.
You really do not want a quick fix!
Shadow work is not an overnight success type of solution.
Shadow work will not instantly heal your life and make everything better.
This work is about building the inner resources, connecting with spiritual allies, and developing the skills that will last you a lifetime.
At first, we will address some of the simpler, easier shadows to dispel.
Then as we go deeper, you will have the skills, power, and the means to transform even the darkest parts of your psyche into the golden aspects of your authentic nature.
But some of this stuff takes a lifetime of work.
Shadow work is like peeling an onion. It can be many layers deep. Just as you resolve one shadow, another one pops up with more lessons.
This will be the norm for your entire life.
And this is what I am offering you, the skills that will last a lifetime, so that you have the capability to constantly be growing, shifting your life, and facing the biggest challenges that may yet come.
Some of this stuff took you a lifetime to learn but will not take a lifetime to transcend.
What about working with a therapist? Won’t that help me?
Yes! Yes it will, absolutely.
And if you are dealing with trauma or PTSD, it is highly advisable that you are working with a trained professional to help deal with these things.
Shadow work will help you to connect with, learn from, and transform these dark moments of your past.
This type of work goes very well, hand-in-hand, with traditional psychotherapy.
If you are seeing a therapist, please continue to do so.
If you feel you may need a therapist or counselor to help you through this work, then please connect with one.
If you have already tried that, and it did not work for you, or you do not want to work within the framework of psychotherapy, that is OK too.
We will meet once a week to help work through some of these difficult things, to decode some of the hidden symbolism in the psyche, to address blind spots you may be missing, and find a way forward that works for you.
What about Trauma, could this make it worse?
Maybe. And this is something very important to keep in mind.
Some of our deepest darkest shadows come from traumatic moments in our lives.
When doing shadow work, we need to go back to the point of origin to help dispel and learn from them.
This could potentially be a re-traumatizing moment, which we do not want.
If you are working with trauma, this shadow work will be extremely beneficial – AND you should work with a professional trained in trauma work as a part of this process.
Remember, this is spiritual work, not psychotherapy. What we do may look like psychotherapy sometimes, but it is really spiritual practice.
If you need to go deeper into psychological, or psychiatric help, then I encourage you to do so, as well as this shadow working, at the same time.
This will raise demons in your life, absolutely! That is the point!
What I mean by that , is that each of the shadows within the psyche is a demon secretly destroying aspects of your life, over and over again.
As you address the shadows, you gain power over it. By naming your demons, you gain power over them.
Each demon has its secret power to rule over a certain aspect of your life.
By gaining power over that demon, you take away its power, dispel its life, and you take control over that domain, from the power place of your own soul.
So yes, we are conjuring demons – to learn from them, to take their power, and to ascend from the darkness they are creating in your life.
Some will say, “I don’t think this will work for me”
Well, then you are right! This will not work for you if you do not think that it will. In fact nothing will.
When I have worked with people, I have seen the help I give work very well for some, and yet not for others.
What is the biggest factor? Those who did the work, really applied it to their lives, and made it a commitment in their practice saw effective results.
Those who did not commit to the work saw little to no benefit, then continued to search for something that would.
AND...we need to understand that not everything works for everyone, which is why there is a 21-day guarantee for this work - which will take you through a vast majority of what is available.
But, if you don’t think it will work for you, you never try it, you never commit to consistent practice (which is key to getting results), then this is not a program for you.
What about the time commitment?
Yes, this will take about two hours of your time each week to go through the materials, meet with me, and start to apply the work.
And there is some work to do that could take a good chunk of time, about 30-60 minutes, 1 to 2 days of each week.
As it is designed, you will need to spend some time everyday to make this work for you. How much time you put in is up to you.
As you work through the materials, you will find that most of the skills you will develop are things you can do during the day, as part of your daily routine.
I will admit, this is not really going to be all that easy, and will take some time investment on your part.
But this work is important to do if you want to see the real and lasting changes in your life.
Think about it this way. You spent a lifetime building the life you have now, from the shadows that have guided you to this place. It will take some time to learn how to work with those shadows and bring them into a place that will work for you.
Someone once said that the best time to plant a tree was ten years ago. The second best time is right now.
This is the same for the shadows.
